Our Blog

Apparently 1 in 4 of us use the topic of weather as an opener to a conversation. Blimey, says a lot about the UK. So, small wonder then, that a magazine has appeared on my desk dedicated to the subject of – the weather. This quarterly membership magazine is posted out to members of the newly formed “theWeather Club”. Backed by the good old Royal Meteorological Society, and led by weather guru Dr Liz Bentley, the club aims to attract thousands of members across the UK.

Design-wise the mag itself owes a lot to the Guardian. I thought it was one of their supplements at first. Fonts and colour palettes are very reminiscent of the newspaper. Printed on 100% recycled uncoated stock, using sumptuous photography, and lovely illustration by Spencer Wilson – it does look the business, until you start trying to read it. On some features, the body copy is about right, size-wise, if a bit dense, but then you come across a feature that has what looks to me like 14pt body text leaded solid. It actually makes my eyes hurt! Designed by Em-Project Ltd, it’s a good start, but just a shame about the body copy. I expect it will evolve as time goes on, but I wish it well. Go on, join the club.
